As a certified school for the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, WOHS offers students this authoritative program in the field of global youth development. Founded by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1956, the award is centred on the core concepts of "challenge, responsibility, and exploration", encouraging young people aged 14 to 24 to achieve self-transcendence through four dimensions: community service, skill development, physical exercise, and outdoor adventure.
Students can independently set their goals: practicing social care in community service, deepening personal skills through art creation or learning a minor language, honing their willpower through outdoor activities such as hiking and camping, and ultimately completing the progressive growth from the Bronze Award to the Silver Award and then the Gold Award.
Our school seamlessly integrates the four modules - community service, skill development, physical exercise, and outdoor adventure - with the existing curriculum: students can convert experimental projects in AP/A-level science courses into skill development goals, deepen cross-cultural abilities through the study of minor languages such as French and Japanese; complete outdoor challenges through outdoor adventure courses (such as hiking and camping), and enhance physical fitness through compulsory sports such as swimming and tennis; and participate in international public welfare services through the "Overseas Classroom" and community cooperation with PLC School in Australia, practicing social responsibility.
The school provides a dedicated mentor team to assist students in obtaining this globally recognized certificate in over 160 countries, supporting their progressive planning from the Bronze Award to the Gold Award. This not only helps students enhance their academic competitiveness but also cultivates independent spirit, leadership, and global citizenship awareness, allowing academic ability and character growth to blossom in both directions, and shaping future world actors and changers.
